The climate is temperate and sunny. Summer temperatures will be hot, with mountain villages being a little cooler. In winter it is normal to be able to sit outside - often in a T shirt! The scenery is dramatic, with hills as far as the eye can see, yet with a feeling of space. Mount Canigou provides a spectacular backdrop, and is particularly beautiful between October and June when snow is clearly visible on its peak. Things To Do Being close to Spain as well as Andorra (an easy day trip) you are in Catalan country where you have the luxury of the mountains and the Med within easy reach. The area is steeped in Cathar history when the border shifted numerous times and Cathar castles are scattered along craggy hilltops The sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are 50 minutes drive, and a trip to Banyuls or Collioure (a picturesque fishing town with a harbour and the top hill situated Templar castle) which are just about an hour�s drive away. Here you can explore meandering lanes with artists� galleries, bars and cafes in leafy squares. To cool down you can swim in the lake at Caramany (10 mins drive) or the different cosy little �plan d�eau� nearby. For a mountain excursion tax-free Andorra is around 2 hours drive away or you can take the �Little Yellow Train� into the mountains. For a winter holiday, there are 9 ski resorts all within 60 minutes drive, making your home an excellent base for those who enjoy quiet ski slopes but don�t want to dedicate a weeks holiday to it! Or maybe you have a group who don�t all want to ski! Instead, why not spend a day relaxing at the thermal spas with treatment rooms or walking along the seafront or marinas of the Med in the winter sunshine.
